Snowmass Village's Quiet Weeks: What Stays Open, What Gets Finished, and the Road to Opening Day

October 15, 2026

Timber-and-stone home with a steep metal roof, glazed entry, granite steps and golden aspen foliage in cool autumn daylight.

Kenichi Snowmass closed for the fall on Oct. 10. Snowmass Trading Company follows on Oct. 13 and Capranea on Oct. 15. The three Viceroy restaurants, Lift Line, Toro and Cafe V, stay open until Nov. 1. Snowmass Tourism's fall 2026 roster shows the village closing a few doors at a time over nearly two months, starting in mid-September.

The reopenings run on a much tighter schedule. Most of the closed restaurants and shops are set to come back between Nov. 20 and Nov. 27. Snowmass is scheduled to open for skiing on Nov. 26, according to Aspen Daily News. The Town of Snowmass Village has set the finish date for the Brush Creek Road and Owl Creek Road roundabout five days before that reopening stretch begins. The town and the businesses are working toward the same date.

The Doors Still Closing, From Today

Several places on the Mall and at Base Village were already dark by mid-October. Fuel Cafe closed Sept. 30. New Belgium Ranger Station and The Stew Pot closed Sept. 27, and Venga Venga, Aurum Food & Wine and Montevino all closed Oct. 3. The roster lists these closings still ahead:

Date Closing Listed reopening
Oct. 13 Snowmass Trading Company Nov. 23
Oct. 15 Capranea Not listed
Oct. 18 The Lounge at Limelight Nov. 25
Oct. 19 Rock Island Oyster Bar & Grill Mid-November
Oct. 24 Gorsuch Ski Cafe Nov. 21
Oct. 25 Après Deck, formerly Stark's Alpine Grill at Viewline Nov. 23
Nov. 1 Lift Line, Toro and Cafe V at the Viceroy Nov. 23
Nov. 2 Alux Spalon Nov. 9

The Viceroy restaurants have the shortest break of any restaurant on the list. They close on Nov. 1 and reopen on Nov. 23, about three weeks later. Lift Line Tavern opened in January 2026, according to Snowmass Tourism's summer 2026 news release, so this winter is the first season it will run from opening day.

Snowmass Tourism's roster also says many businesses close Mondays and Tuesdays in the off-season and that hours change as reopening dates get closer. Some entries have no dates at all. Il Poggio, Snowmass Lanes and Heather's at the Stonebridge Inn are listed without a closing or reopening date, so calling ahead is the only reliable way to check.

The Year-Round Layer Carries the Gap

By early November most of the Mall and Base Village will be closed at once. The quietest stretch on the roster falls between the Viceroy closing on Nov. 1 and the first group of reopenings on Nov. 20. These places are listed as open through the fall:

  • On the Mall: The Tavern and Zane's Tavern for food and drinks, Daly Bottle & Grain Fine Food, Guapodog, Challenge Aspen, and Christy Sports on reduced hours
  • Elsewhere in the village: The Daly Diner and Taster's, which closes only on Thanksgiving Day
  • At Snowmass Center: Clark's Groceries, Ajax Supply, Sundance Liquor & Gifts and The Snowmass Dispensary
  • At Base Village: TAC Fitness at One Snowmass East, plus Eye Pieces of Snowmass, which may cut its hours

Snowmass Center is the only one of the village's commercial areas where every business on the roster stays open all season. The grocery store, hardware store and liquor store keep their regular schedules while the shops built around ski traffic close.

The Town Is Working the Same Window

The town's construction schedule follows the same calendar. Phase 4 of the Brush Creek Road and Owl Creek Road roundabout began the afternoon of Sept. 16. That closed the connection between the two roads in both directions and shifted both lanes of Brush Creek Road west, above and below the work zone. In its Sept. 9 notice, the town said Owl Creek Road would stay closed to through traffic between Brush Creek Road and Chapel Curve through approximately Oct. 19, with Highline Road as the detour and emergency access kept open.

The town said the roundabout was on schedule to be finished Nov. 15. No newer update had been posted as of mid-October, so the Oct. 19 and Nov. 15 dates are still the town's plan, not confirmed results. The planned Owl Creek reopening falls on the same date Rock Island Oyster Bar closes. The roundabout's finish date is five days before Kenichi, Grub Thai and Smash & Dash Burger are listed to reopen on Nov. 20.

Bus riders have lived with the project longer than drivers have. The town's project page says the bus stops at the intersection closed after the chairlifts stopped running on April 13, with a planned reopening in mid-November. Until then, the town points riders to the stops on Faraway Road or Sinclair Road.

The Sinclair Road stop now has a better walking route as well. On Oct. 8 the town announced that the Melton Ranch Trail is fully open again after a utility relocation project. The paved 0.8-mile trail connects Martingale Lane and Sinclair Road to the Village Center and reaches the Brush Creek Trail by way of the Wood Bridge. Work began in April and included new retaining walls, asphalt and striping. Crews will be back over the next few weeks to finish punch-list items.

The road and trail work is happening in the same weeks the restaurants are closed, which keeps it out of the busy season. Pitkin County also said in July that work on Owl Creek Road and the Owl Creek Trail would continue through October 2026. The trail was expected to stay open, with construction next to it.

Reopening Week, Day by Day

Most of the village is scheduled to come back between the roundabout's Nov. 15 finish date and Thanksgiving.

  1. Nov. 20: Kenichi Snowmass, Grub Thai and Smash & Dash Burger
  2. Nov. 21: Gorsuch Ski Cafe
  3. Nov. 23: Lift Line, Toro and Cafe V at the Viceroy, Après Deck, One Vibe, Snowmass Trading Company and Snowmass T-Shirt Co
  4. Nov. 25: The Lounge at Limelight and both Four Mountain Sports shops on the Mall
  5. Nov. 26, opening day: New Belgium Ranger Station, The Stew Pot, Aurum Food & Wine, Base Camp Bar and Grille, Crepe Therapy Cafe, Snowmass Sports, Incline Sports, and Four Mountain Sports and Four Mountain Kids at Base Village
  6. Nov. 27: Venga Venga and Sunglass Panache

The roster gives 26 specific reopening dates in those eight days. Rock Island Oyster Bar and JUS Snowmass are listed only as "mid-November." A few places reopen later, after the lifts are already running. The Edge at Timberline returns Dec. 1, Ro + Fern on Dec. 7, and Pinecreek Cookhouse on Dec. 10.

Snowmass Tourism expects one more place to open on the mountain this winter. The rebuilt Ullrhof, now fully electric, is due back for the 2026–27 season with seating for more than 500.

Before and Just After Opening Day

Two dates near opening day affect outdoor plans. Pitkin County has announced that Sky Mountain Park will be closed to most public access Nov. 18 through 22 during the fourth rifle season, with part of the park open for a managed elk hunt. Rim Trail North, Seven Star Trail, the Upper North Mesa Equestrian Trail and Viewline/Deadline Trail have closed for wildlife from Dec. 1 through May 15 in recent winters. Those dates come from the town's 2025–26 closure notice, and a 2026–27 schedule had not been posted as of mid-October.

The quiet weeks also include decisions that will shape future seasons. Snowmass Town Council is scheduled to take up the Draw Site workforce housing proposal again on Oct. 19. According to Aspen Daily News, the 65-unit plan was redesigned from one large building into three smaller ones. Three council members were firmly in favor, and the plan needs four votes. Aspen Skiing Co.'s 20-unit employee housing project, The Shop, received final approval, and construction could start in spring, the paper reported.

The Sky Cab gondola, known locally as the Skittles, will run one more winter in its current form. Aspen Daily News reported that its replacement will carry 1,000 people an hour, up from 510, with construction starting in August 2027 and a target opening of Thanksgiving 2027. The new gondola keeps 12 candy-colored cabins, with purple replacing blue.

Let's Get Started

Aspen has no shortage of real estate agents. What it has a shortage of is agents who have been voted the best — three times — by the community they serve. When the stakes are this high and the market this complex, experience and trust aren't optional. They're everything. That's The Carter Group.
